The Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB) is part of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA)

Since the 1st of May 2017, eleven German biobank sites have united to the German Biobank Alliance (GBA). This paves the way for a national and Europe-wide bio samples and data exchange between biobanks. The central biobank of the Hannover Medical School, the Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB), is one of the partners in the network. „The German biobanks engage in a ground-breaking common initiative, which provides a basis for a new generation of Europe-wide cross-linked biobanks” explains the chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the initiative, Prof. Fay Betsou. The Federal Ministry for education and research (BMBF) funded the biobank alliance with 14.4 Mio Euro until 2020.
Development and comparison of novel non-invasive methods for analyzing airway inflammation

Airway inflammation monitoring, preferably by non-invasive methods, is a crucial step in the safety evaluation of novel drugs. In a research project conducted by the Fraunhofer ITEM Division of Airway Research since February 2017, the respiratory inflammation upon segmental bronchoscopic application of endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) is characterized and compared with the inflammation induced by inhalation challenge with LPS.

On January 13, an open-label phase-I/II study on a therapeutic approach in advanced cervical cancer was initiated at the CRC Hannover. The principal investigator is Prof. Peter Hillemanns, cervical cancer expert at the Hannover Medical School and S3 guideline coordinator.
Start of a phase-I study in the therapeutic area of Tourette’s syndrome

On January 18, 2017, a phase-I study in the therapeutic area of Tourette’s syndrome was started. The PI is the internationally renowned Tourette’s expert, Professor Kirsten Müller-Vahl of the Department of Psychiatry, Social Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the Hannover Medical School (MHH), conducting this study in collaboration with the MHH team for early-phase clinical trials and drug research (Professor Christoph Schindler) at the CRC Hannover.
New phase-I trial in collaboration with the clinic for Hematology and Hemostaseology initiated at CRC Hannover
